We are delighted to welcome our very first YPARD Country representative for Azerbaijan: Nizami Imamverdiyev.
Nizami is an economist, with a Bachelor degree in Economic Theory from Baku State University, Azerbaijan. As a student he was a board member of the European Youth Organization AEGEE-Baku for six months in 2008. After finishing his Bachelor degree he did a Master in Economics from the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET) in Tbilisi, Georgia, with a scholarship of USAID. During his master he had an internship at World Bank Azerbaijan’s offices.
He holds a second MA in European Economic Integration and Business from College of Europe, Bruges, Belgium, thanks to a European Commission scholarship. At the end of his second master degree he had an internship at The United Nation University- Comparative Regional Integration Studies, Bruges, Belgium for three months.
Nizami is currently a researcher at Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO), Halle, Germany. Through his research he focuses on the impact of Global Food Crisis on wheat market and wheat export of Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine to the world as well as to Central Asian and Caucasian Countries.
“Although I have studied economics more, I want to give my contribution to agriculture as an economist.” Nizami says. “Azerbaijan economy is based on oil and gas, but these past ten years my country wants to develop non-oil sector, in particular agricultural economics. I want to get more experience in this sector and develop agricultural economics in Azerbaijan.
During my experience, I made a connection with several international and local agricultural organizations. I know that in Azerbaijan there are a lot of young professionals who want to join international networks in agriculture, such as YPARD. I will do my best to involve those youth with YPARD and increase their interest for agricultural development.
In addition, since I am involved in this area, I want to share recent research topics in Agriculture and also send information about seminars, conferences, specific events etc. in agriculture to YPARD members and actively participate in YPARD online discussions and give my contribution.”
We can’t wait to hear more from the Youth-in-Agriculture in Azerbaijan and we trust that YPARD Azerbaijan will be successful in mobilizing the youth through Nizami’s leadership. Welcome, Nizami!
