YPARD presentation in Russia, Saint-Petersburg

Presentation of YPARD in Saint-Petersburg

The YPARD presentation took place at the last day of September 2013. For Russia it’s a new movement and, as all other new European ideas, it came to the city of Peter the Fist.

The presentation took place at Saint-Petersburg State Agrarian University at 17 o’clock. Curious and open-minded students and scientists came to listen to it. People listened to carefully and then there was a small discussion on the topic.

The presentation was made by YPARD Russian representative – Perevoshchikova Yana. She told about the organization, its activities, strategic objectives, a little bit about the history of its development. Also, about the plan of action of YPARD in Russia, about the goals and possibilities of development of this platform and called everyone, who became interested in, to collaborate.

Participants showed interest. It became clear that one of the barriers is lack of knowledge of English language as YPARD website, e-mail newsletter and groups in social networks are mainly in English. Partly, this can be solved through the Russian representative – there is a group in vkontakte (russian social media platform), and some interesting and relevant news for Russia will be translated.

Very interesting suggestions for collaboration with different already existing projects in Russia were made, like “voice of youth”, Center of Student initiatives, Student Union of Agricultural University and Union of young scientists.

We would like to express special thanks to Anna Papushina, who invited students, and arranged the classroom. Also, we thank all the participants.

This presentation is just a start of a big project of development of YPARD in Russia. We would like to believe that YPARD will become popular in Russia, and thanks to this organization, a lot of young specialists will have a possibility to express their opinion about agricultural research for development.
