YPARD Note: Showcase your project in ICT for Agriculture (eag)!
Catholic Relief Services is planning its fifth conference on the use of information and communications technologies for development (ICT4D). This year's conference will be held in Accra, Ghana.

They are now accepting abstracts from organizations that would like to send presenters to the conference. We have reserved slots at the conference for case study presentations and/or demonstrations of ICT4D solutions by technology firms and their partners.

What topics are appropriate?

They are particularly interested in solutions that engage community members directly and that have the potential to scale across geographies and/or program sectors. We would like to understand the partnerships that have been formed to accelerate their adoption and the business models that have been developed to sustain them over time.

What will be the format of the presentations?

Each presentation will be repeated up to twelve times to small groups of conference participants. The presentations will be short— 20 minutes—and will include an opportunity for group members to ask questions.

How can I apply to give a presentation or demonstration?

Applicants should submit a description of the solution. The text should be no longer than 300 words. It should describe:

  1. The problem, the solution and the benefits derived from its use.
  2. The primary user of the solution and the team involved in its implementation.
  3. The length of time and the geographies in which the solution has been used.
  4. The extent to which the solution has been modified to better support its users.
  5. The business model for sustaining use of the solution over time.

Why should I give a presentation or demonstration at the conference?

  1. CRS' ICT4D conferences have been widely recognized across the relief and development community.
  2. The conferences help publicize the opportunities that today's information and communications technologies provide to improve lives.
  3. They bring together high-level government representatives, multilateral institutions, international and local relief and development organizations, universities and technology firms, large and small.
  4. They provide a forum to discuss successes, challenges and plans for improving the effectiveness of relief and development initiatives.
  5. They highlight innovative and successful uses of technologies and applications that show great promise in improving relief and development work and sustaining its impact.

How many people are likely to attend?

We expanded our last two conferences to accommodate 180 participants and expect the same number of attendees this year.

Who sponsors the conferences?

Past sponsors have included, among others, Intel, Accenture, the World Bank and the Government of Rwanda. The conferences have been widely publicized in the national press of each host country.
