Association for Strengthening Agricultural Research in Eastern and Central Africa (ASARECA): Research on Upscaling Indigenous Vegetables in Africa

ASARECA is a not-for-profit sub-regional organisation (SRO) of the National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS) in the eleven countries of Eastern and Central Africa (ECA) – Burundi, DR Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.

ASARECA invites proposals from these NARS for proposals regarding how to expand the production of African indigenous vegetables as an approach to address micro-nutrient deficiencies.  African indigenous vegetables -- African nightshade, Amaranths, Crotalaria, Spiderplant, Jute mallow, African eggplant, etc. -- are known to be rich in micronutrients and to contain phytochemicals which protect people against non-communicable diseases.

ASARECA's announcement includes eligibility criteria and guidelines on how to apply. Expressions of interest (i.e., concept notes) need to be submitted by 14 September 2012.
