Elsevier Foundation: Awards for Early-Career Women Scientists in the Developing World

The Elsevier Foundation, in partnership with the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) and the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), supports an awards program to recognize talented early-career women scientists in the developing world.

Each year, the program will choose one winner from eligible countries in each of Latin America and the Caribbean; East and Southeast Asia and the Pacific; the Arab region; Central and South Asia; and Sub-Saharan Africa.

The 2013 nominations are for the life sciences (i.e., including the agricultural sciences).  Nominations will be accepted from early-career scientists (within ten years of graduating with a PhD degree) from 81 scientifically-lagging countries.  The list of these countries is linked from the announcement.

Each winner will be celebrated for her research excellence, and receive a cash prize of US$5 thousand.

The nomination form, and a press lease about the award, can be found on the website of OWSD.  The application deadline is 15 October 2012.
