UN-Water makes "Water for Life" awards to recognize best practices that can ensure the long-term sustainable management of water resources. The current theme is water and sustainable development. The prize is awarded in two categories: (i) "Best water management practices," and (ii) "Best participatory, communication, awareness-raising, and education practices." The awards are for projects and programs that are nominated by independent nominating organizations. The award winners are offered travel and accommodation to the UN event at World Water Day, plus video promotion and a certificate (no cash prize). The nomination period closes 15 September 2014.
