The World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program call for applications is OPEN! This fellowship supports developing country PhD candidates to conduct innovative, development-related, doctoral research under the supervision of a research advisor abroad.

Eligibility

Applicants should;

  • Be nationals of a Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing
  • Not be nationals of any country not eligible to receive World Bank financing(for example, they cannot be dual citizens of a country that cannot receive World Bank financing)
  • Be currently enrolled in a PhD program in a World Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing.
  • While enrolled in the PhD program, they have resided in a World Bank member country eligible to receive World Bank financing.
  • Have completed all coursework and exams required by their PhD program at the time of application deadline.
  • Be 35 years or younger as of February 02, 2016.
  • Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of all types of appointments of the World Bank Group (The World Bank, International Development Association, International Finance Corporation, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlements of Investment Disputes). Nor are a close relative of the aforementioned by blood or adoption with the term "close relative" defined as: Mother, Father, Sister, Half-sister, Brother, Half-brother, Son, Daughter, Aunt, Uncle, Niece, or Nephew.
  • Not have previously been the recipient of the World Bank Robert S. McNamara Fellowships Program.
  • Be accepted as visiting scholars for a period of six to ten months by a university or research center in a World Bank member country other than their country of citizenship and, if applicable, other than a developing country in which they currently reside.
  • Have research proposal for RSMFP funding endorsed by their PhD thesis supervisor and their host institution research advisor.
  • Be able to begin their fellowship between July and December, 2016.
  • Be able to complete their proposed fellowship research in 6 to 10 months

Award:

Up to $25,000 (U.S.) for developing country nationals to travel abroad to conduct development-related PhD research under the supervision of a host advisor at a university, research or development institution in a World Bank member country.

Scholarship covers a 6 to 10 month period starting between July and December 2016. Preference in selecting fellows will be given to applicants currently employed as a lecturer or researcher at an academic or research institution in a member developing country of the World Bank
