The Joint Japan / World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program finances graduate and post-graduate studies for nationals of developing countries. Scholars pursue graduate studies internationally in one of the program’s partner or preferred university graduate programs. The preferred masters programs include several with specializations in agriculture, natural resources management, water resources, forestry, earth sciences, environmental innovation, and others. Interested individuals apply directly to one or more of the preferred university programs, which in turn provide lists of eligible candidates to the World Bank's scholarship program for consideration.
JJ/WBGSP Scholars from developing countries can study only at preferred master’s programs and partner master’s programs associated with this scholarship.

Application guidelines
- To apply for the JJ/WBGSP scholarship you must be a developing country national, not be a dual citizen of any developed country
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned before 2013
- Be under 45 years old on the Application Deadline date
- Have at least 3 years of recent development-related experience since earning a Bachelor’s degree
- Commit to returning home to your country on graduation in order to use your enhanced knowledge and skills towards your community’s, country’s, or region’s development
- Those receiving a scholarship are barred from working at the World Bank Group for three years following graduation from the preferred master’s program.
