The U.S. Department of State offers funding to create and more effectively implement marine protected areas in the Pacific Islands. Grants can be made for projects in Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.
