Call for Applications: IMMANA Fellowships (Round 4)

For 2018-19, IMMANA will award five 12-month post-doctoral Fellowships to early career researchers who are using and developing or adapting new methodological approaches with mentors in ongoing research programmes in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The Fellowship includes a research stipend, a travel allowance and a honorarium for each of the mentors. Details are available in the Call for Applications.

Eligible candidates will have completed a doctoral degree in any field related to agriculture, nutrition or health research and practice and should have no more than three years of post-PhD experience prior to their proposed Fellowship start date.

Eligibility

Eligible candidates will have completed a doctoral degree in any field related to agriculture, nutrition or health research and practice and should have no more than three years of post-PhD experience prior to their proposed Fellowship start date. 

Applicants must propose to conduct fieldwork or other research in Africa or Asia under the joint supervision of two mentors, one from the applicant’s current or previous employer or academic institution, and one from a host institution where the applicant proposes to advance their work.

How to apply

Applications are submitted in a two-stage process. Applicants are welcome and encouraged to submit a concept note to confirm eligibility and receive feedback. Concept notes are accepted on a rolling basis from 20 September 2017 until 1 February 2018.

Applicants must submit a full proposal by 1 March 2018. IMMANA Fellows must then begin their 12-month projects between the dates of 1 June and 31 December 2019.

Selection process

Review of full proposals will involve evaluation for relevance to the intersection of agriculture, nutrition, and health. An Independent Panel of Experts will assess the outcome of these reviews, and make recommendations based on the assessment criteria detailed below. The review process is also overseen by the IMMANA Steering Committee, comprised of members from DFID, The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, USAID and CGIAR’s A4NH programme.
