The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives offers short-term funding to community groups, NGOs, peoples organizations and in exceptional cases, to international NGOs and government institutions for small projects addressing governance, democracy, capacity-building, economic, environmental, and social development issues. In 2017, Canada adopted a Feminist International Assistance Policy to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls to reduce poverty.
