The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is responsible for the administration of TWAS, the academy of sciences for the developing world – www.twas.org – hereinafter referred to as UNESCO/TWAS.
Founded in Trieste, Italy, in 1983, UNESCO/TWAS represents the best of science in the developing world. Its principal aim is to promote scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the South. Since 1986, UNESCO/TWAS has supported scientific research and capacity building projects in more than 100 countries in the South.
