About ICARDA
The International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) is an international autonomous, non-profit, research organization temporarily based in Beirut, Lebanon supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). ICARDA is committed to the improvement of livelihoods of the resource-poor in dry areas by enhancing food security and alleviating poverty through agricultural research, and the equitable use of natural resources.
Main purpose of the position
To assist the Turkey/ ICARDA cereal pathology research program at Aegean Agricultural Research Institute (AARI) in Izmir, Turkey.
Main responsibilities
- Participation in field monitoring and surveillance cereal pathogens in Turkey
- Preparation media for pathogen isolation
- Isolation, multiplication, collection and preservation of cereal pathogens
- Preparation of cereal pathogen inoculum and seedling inoculations
- Participate in race analysis and seedling assessment of cereal rust pathogens, data collection and data managements
- Assist in cereal pathology field activities (inoculation, data collection and harvesting)
- Assist in preparation of international disease screening nurseries
- Assist in supervision of graduate students and daily labors needed for greenhouse and cereal pathology laboratories
- Participate in yearly crossing activities
- Assist the program in any other requested technical activities
Education, qualifications and experience
- BSc or diploma with minimum 5 years of experience on cereal pathology
- Basic knowledge of working with pathology laboratory equipments
- Good knowledge of working with computer (Microsoft Office software)
- Basic knowledge in English writing and data recording and entry
- Ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds
- Turkish/ International driving license
Terms of appointment, salary and benefits
The initial period of employment will be for 3 year of which the first 6 months will be probationary period.
