Call for expression of interest - Junior scientist in plant tissue culture and in vitro conservation

The laboratory on Plant Physiology and Cryobiology at Czech Research Institute (CRI) in Prague, Czech Republic is seeking a junior researcher to work in projects related to in vitro cryopreservation of vegetatively propagated crops like potato, hop and grapevine cultures, as well as, physiological and thermal characteristics of meristems in dehydration and low temperature.

The aim is to study the effect of low and ultra-low temperatures on plants for the development of cryopreservation methods and the use of these methods in preserving selected genotypes with desired properties at ultra-low temperatures and for the elimination of selected plant pathogens.

Research Framework and Objectives

The aim is to study the effect of low and ultra-low temperatures on plants for the development of cryopreservation methods and the use of these methods in preserving selected genotypes with desired properties at ultra-low temperatures and for the elimination of selected plant pathogens.

The issue of cryobiology is studied using biotechnological techniques using in vitro and ex vitro techniques. The tolerance of plants to low and ultra-low temperatures and water scarcity is assessed using physiological and biophysical parameters at plant organ or plant level. Non-research activities concern Cryobank of vegetatively propagated plants within the National Program of Conservation and Use of Plant Genetic Resources and Agrobiodiversity with a separate chapter on Cryopreservation of gene pools of vegetatively propagated crops.
