International Youth Day 2015 Campaign – Supporting Youth Civic Engagement through Agriculture

International Youth Day 2015 logoYouth engagement and participation is essential to achieve sustainable development. Yet often the opportunities for youth to get politically, economically and socially involved are low or non-existent.

This is why “Youth Civic Engagement” is the motto of International Youth Day 2015.

International Youth Day 2015 logoYouth engagement and participation is essential to achieve sustainable development. Yet often the opportunities for youth to get politically, economically and socially involved are low or non-existent.

This is why “Youth Civic Engagement” is the motto of International Youth Day 2015.

The IYD 2015 campaign aims at promoting civic engagement and participation of youth in politics and public life, so that young people can be empowered and bring a full contribution to society, development and peace.

What does agriculture have to do with civic engagement?

At YPARD we want to encourage our members to show how young professionals take civic responsibilities through their agricultural practices, and how it benefits individuals, societies, and sustainable social and environmental development in general.

As a young agricultural professional: How do your agricultural-related activities contribute to create a positive impact on your local area or city? How do you support your peers, communities and societies through your involvement in agriculture? How could you play a stronger role for more youth civic engagement through your own specific activities?

Share your story with the world as a Youth-In-Ag. Professional!

In the run up to the International Youth Day on the 12th of August, 2015, YPARD joins the online campaign of the Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development, led by the co-chairs, DESA and UNDP. This campaign will open up a space for young people to share their stories and ideas on civic engagement activities.
