About Me:
Abiotic stresses such as drought, and soil compaction are just a few examples of the major constraints that roots are exposed to during plant growth. Understanding how plants with different root traits can respond to these stresses is crucial for improving crop production under such conditions. I am particularly interested in root traits that can significantly reduce the metabolic cost of soil exploration, thereby improving root growth and water acquisition underwater limited conditions. The main goal of my current is to evaluate the metabolic cost and benefits of living root cortical area components (i.e. Cortical cell size and number of cells per file) for water acquisition and confirming the physiological utility of root cortical aerenchyma and related anatomical traits for drought tolerance in different agro-ecologies in low input agriculture systems. This work will help to  identify useful traits and cultivars for future agricultural environments which are more sustainable.
