We are delighted to welcome the new YPARD France communications focal point: Isaline Réguer
Isaline is pursuing a Masters degree in Agronomy in Bordeaux Sciences Agro, in France. She is specializing in Territorial Economy and Agricultural Development. Her goal is to work with a holistic approach to enhance and strengthen agricultural practices and policies better for the environment and for human well-being.
Last year, Isaline did a 6-month internship in a research centre specialized in territorial socio-economy. Through interviews with agricultural stakeholders of the region Aquitaine (France), she had to find the territorial resources which facilitate the development of short food supply chains. She also realized a typology on these territorial resources in order to better understand the levers of their development. The general study of this research centre aims at providing advice to local decision-makers to enhance sustainable local development. I enjoyed this experience because it allowed me to be in contact with different stakeholders while working in a multi-disciplinary environment (agronomy, public policies, nutrition, social studies, ). This internship made me realize that I like applied research and that it is essential to adopt a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to resolve new agricultural challenges.
During this school year, Isaline is pursuing a gap year. She decided to use this time to learn on the ground. First, she built with a friend an International Solidarity Project with the NGO Engineer Without Borders (EWB). This project aimed at understanding the concept of Food Sovereignty thanks to interviews of agricultural stakeholders in Colombia. The purpose of this project is to create a popular education tool to sensitize people on the Colombian culture and on the concept of Food Sovereignty. Thus, she is working on the development of a board game, which could be easily disseminated in associative networks; this game could be a useful tool for associations to create popular training on Food Sovereignty.
During the second part of her gap year, Isaline had the chance to be enrolled as an intern in the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. She is working in the Biodiversity Mainstreaming Platform. This is a chance for me to be an intern in the FAO. I learned a lot about the functioning of this organization, and how international projects can enhance biodiversity for food and agriculture.
She defends an agricultural model that is more respectful of human beings and ecosystems. She really believes that youth is a key element to improve the current agricultural model. Young people understand the current challenges and are the future generation: they have a key role to play to improve the situation.
Isaline is very happy to work with Margaux (country representative) for YPARD France. She considers it as a real honor and she is eager to invest herself in the best way possible to boost the network, learn a lot and discover new young professionals.
