We are delighted to welcome the new YPARD Romania Country representative Ramona Mihaela Ciubotaru.
Ramona is a graduate of Bachelor degree in agriculture from the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine "Ion Ionescu de la Brad" Iasi (Romania). She currently lives in Italy and is enrolled in her 2nd year of Master studies on Science Programme in Sustainable IPM Technologies for Mediterranean Fruit and Vegetable crops, within the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari. Her studies are focused on possible infectious grapevine nepoviruses in Romania and she is mainly addressing the three genera’s Xiphinema, Longidorus and Paralongidorus, as virus-vectors in different wine-growing areas that are representative of Romania.
Previously, she was a temporary junior research assistant at one of the three branches of the Romanian National Institute of Research and Development for Biological Sciences. The research interest lay primarily on intensive field work to assess the environmental impacts of genetically modified maize cultivation as well as surveys in non-GM agro-ecosystems. Ramona’s active participation in several national and international practical trainings and conferences has provided her with the opportunity to be introduced to new techniques and devices/facilities for agriculture that she strongly believes are necessary to update and enrich her knowledge as much as possible and is decisively prepared to work hard for a rich professional experience in agriculture.
She also worked as a volunteer in the Language Exchange community for almost one year and credits the expirience as one of the most beautiful, interesting and challenging experiences of her life. Being involved in helping people gave her an enormous sense of job satisfaction and achievement. It also showed her that you don’t need to be someone in power to make a difference. This expirience sparked her interest to become the YPARD Romania country representative so she can make a change on the agricultural perception within the younger generations of Romania.
"What attracts me to YPARD is the fact that it gives a voice to the youth and brings on table youth specific issues. I was impressed by the way in which it promotes agriculture among young people. I consider that sharing information and connecting people designs the crucial role YPARD plays in shaping the future of the agriculture and human well-being. I would like to have the chance of becoming a contributing part of this vivid community that has such visible and powerful impact. The quality of this community combined with the highest standards of supervisory practice and mentoring makes YPARD the perfect place to aim for students and researches passionate about discovering the most intimate secrets of Nature"
We can’t wait to hear more from the Youth-in-Agriculture in Romania and we trust that YPARD Romania will be successful in mobilizing the youth through Ramona's leadership.
