CENTRAL ASIAN FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME
Support for MSc, MEng, and PhD Studies at the Asian Institute of Technology
The CAFDP at UCA is pleased to announce scholarships for Masters and Doctoral studies at the AIT for Central Asians. The scholarships provide support for students who wish to pursue Master of Science, Master of Engineering, or Doctoral programmes at AIT's School of Environment, Resources and Development and School of Engineering and Technology particularly in the fields of Environmental Engineering and Management, and Water Engineering Management.
UCA’s CAFDP is designed to ensure that scholars from Central Asia with top international academic credentials are strongly represented in the University’s faculty, and conducting leading research in the region. Successful PhD graduates from AIT who are sponsored under CAFDP will be considered for academic appointments in UCA’s Graduate School of Development and/or undergraduate School of Arts and Sciences. Students completing their Master’s level will be encouraged to continue their studies in the Doctoral programme at AIT.
The selection of students for AIT’s programmes is based solely on merit and subject to AIT’s admission criteria. Completed applications for candidates seeking CAFDP support for studies at AIT must be received by March 27, 2009 by 17:00. Candidates from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan are strongly encouraged to apply.

About UCA
The University is a secular, private, not-for-profit, and self-governing educational institution established in 2000 through an International Treaty by His Highness the Aga Khan and the Presidents of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, ratified by the respective parliaments, and registered with the United Nations. UCA was created to offer an internationally recognized standard of higher education in Central Asia and create knowledgeable, skilled, and creative graduates who will contribute leadership, ideas, and innovations to the transitioning economies and communities of the region.
UCA is comprised of the School of Arts and Sciences – offering undergraduate education, the Graduate School of Development, and the already operational School of Professional and Continuing Education (SPCE) – offering professional and vocational qualifications for young people and adults from the campus communities. UCA is constructing three campuses in Tekeli, Kazakhstan; Naryn, the Kyrgyz Republic; and Khorog, Tajikistan; creating Central Asia’s largest and most ambitious construction project. The campuses will provide state-of-the art classrooms and research laboratories, with an integrated role for information technology throughout the school. Residential and dining facilities will be provided for up to 2,200 students and 200 faculty and managerial staff, developing a new Central Asian model for education facilities – a University Community. The campuses will also house publicly accessible libraries, athletic complexes, and cultural-social events: the libraries will house a collection of up to 130,000 volumes, including reference, periodical and audio-visual collections; the campus auditoriums will have a seating capacity of 450 people; the athletic complex includes multi-purpose gymnasia, an outdoor tracks and fields, swimming pools, tennis courts and ice hockey arenas.
Architectural planning is being done by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki who has won more than 20 architectural prizes in Japan, the United States, Britain, Italy, and Spain.
