Web 2.0 Learning Opportunity, Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 26-30 August 2013

The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU ( CTA ) is to facilitate access to and dissemination of information in the areas of agriculture and rural development in 78 African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, including Burkina Faso. Support the adoption of Web 2.0 applications and social media is a great opportunity to meet this mission.

CTA in collaboration with the  Yam Pukri   ( YP ), will organize from 26 to 30 August 2013, a "Learning Web 2.0 and Social Media Opportunity" training. Participants will be introduced to a variety of Web 2.0 applications and learn to use them in a practical way. They will have the opportunity to attend and take part in the practice of these innovative applications can experience the possibilities of their use in a professional setting.

The organization of these courses are part of CTA initiatives to support organizations in ACP countries so that they can have better access to information, better share and maintain their networks more efficiently. 

Contents of 'Learning Opportunity

  • Web 2.0 concepts, principles, issues of access to information in developing countries;
  • RSS and feed readers;
  • collaboration and knowledge production through the Wiki, Wikipedia example
  • The use of platforms like Google Docs;
  • The use of social networks such as Facebook (personal account and professional page), LinkedIn, Twitter;
  • The use of Skype;
  • Online mapping (registration, location of institutions, etc..) With Google Map 
  • Creating blogs with Blogger.
  • Self-Learning 2.0: Introduction to IMARK Module "Web 2.0 and Social Media for Development"

Eligibility - Responsibilities

Participation in the Learning Opportunity is free subject to acceptance by the organizers. Selected applicants will receive confirmation of their participation. 

Who can participate (Criteria)

  • Be actively engaged (e) in the agricultural sector (value chains, political), rural development, natural resource management, conservation of biodiversity, information - communication, including ICT for development (ICTD) ;
  • Be initiated (e) to the computer and be familiar (e) to the navigation on the Internet;
  • Having a regular, or better access, own a computer connected to the Internet;
  • Have an active email address;
  • Able to support the logistical costs of participation in the event, if necessary (see below);
  • Reside in  Burkina Faso .

Applications from people playing a role related to training in their institutions will be examined carefully (to promote a retransmission of skills). Women candidates are also strongly encouraged.

Responsibilities

Participants undertake to take care of themselves the costs of their travel and accommodation (if necessary) in Ouagadougou.The organizers will provide the coffee breaks and lunch during the five days of the learning opportunity. During the event, in addition to the lunches and refreshments, organizers provide CTA publications and various teaching materials. Those interested in participating must register here .

The organizers will inform applicants of the status of their registration no later than two weeks before the start of training courses by email.
