Training Officer -- ICARDA Capacity Development Unit

Reports to: Technically to Head, Capacity Development Unit (CDU) and administratively to the Regional Coordinator.

Main purpose of the position

Responsible for coordinating and reporting on ICARDA Capacity development Activities such as Group Courses and ICARDA Degree, Non-Degree Training and Internships organized under ICARDA North Africa Research Platform based in Morocco.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for coordinating with ICARDA Scientists and ICARDA Outreach Offices the daily management of ICARDA Group Courses and ICARDA Degree, Non-Degree trainees and Internships hosted under ICARDA North Africa Research Platform including but not limited to: day to day management of training, effecting payments to which students are eligible, ensuring all logistical aspects such as visa, flights, accommodations, monthly subsistence allowance payment, student and ICARDA supervisors performance, coordinating with the trainees and ICARDA supervisors timely reporting
  • Travel to training sites to supervise and coordinate training implementation, including administrating the necessary procedures, when required
  • Coordinate with ICARDA scientists and ICARDA project managers technical reports and financial reports on trainings implemented
  • Screening donors call for proposals targeting Capacity development activities, summarizing them and informing relevant ICARDA Scientists and ICARDA Outreach offices
  • Screening scholarships grant opportunities, summarizing them and informing relevant ICARDA Scientists and ICARDA Outreach offices
  • Updating ICARDA CDU webpage
  • Development and updating a database on donors, civil society organizations, academia, private sectors focusing on Agriculture and active on the scope of work of  ICARDA North Africa Research Platform
  • Giving support to ICARDA scientists and partners for the use of ICARDA Distance and e learning
  • Collecting and updating in coordination with ICARDA scientists training materials
  • Organization and support of ICARDA In House and Guests Seminars
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the Head of CDU   

Education, qualifications and experience

  • University degree in either education or political science, MSc Preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in capacity development and/or project management
  • Excellent organizational and coordination skills
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English, Arabic and French
  • Experience in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook) and other computer applications such as web based contacts database systems, web content management, and social media tools
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in team
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and extra hours needed
  • Experience in working in an international, multi-cultural environment will be an advantage 

Terms of appointment, salary and benefits

Depending on the availability of funds, the initial contract will be for 1 year, which will be probationary period. Subsequent employment is determined based on the performance and continued need for the position.
