Where organic agriculture stresses on the methods of production fair trade focuses on marketing and trade. By targeting environmental, health, social and economic aspects they have captured the attention of the consumers and the producers alike. In spite of the increase in consumer demand for these products, the success of these movements will be determined by its contribution to the economic progress of producers in the developing countries. This study understands the factors that influence a small scale farmer to adopt organic farming under fair trade regimes and how this contributes in creating a sustainable livelihood strategy that makes a farm household less vulnerable to poverty.
