This report is one of the deliverables to the Arctic Council Sustainable Development Working Group project 'EALLIN - The Voice of Reindeer Herding Youth 2012-2014'.
IAAS (International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences) is the biggest student organization in the field of agriculture and related sciences worldwide. IAAS was founded in 1957 and started with only 8 member countries. It grew a lot to the organization it is nowadays with over 40 member countries and about 10.000 students as members. IAAS wants to promote the Exchange of Experience, Knowledge and Ideas and to improve the mutual Understanding between Students in the field of Agricultural and Related Sciences all over the World.
The IAAS exchange program – ‘Expro’- exists over 45 years and in this time, more than 20.000 students have been exchanged with IAAS. The IAAS exchange program gives opportunities to all students in Countries, where a recognised local committee of IAAS is active, to do a traineeship (internship) in another country. With ‘Expro’, you can learn and experience things that cannot be learned out of course books.
Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations (FAO) develops e- learning courses for professionals working in food and nutrition security, social and economic development and sustainable management of natural resources.
Soil organic matter is one of the most important components regulating the transfer of nutrients in terrestrial ecosystems. An innate constituent of soil organic matter is that it contains carbon, nitrogen, sulfur and phosphorus. However, our understanding of how phosphorus transfers through soil organic matter remains limited because information on the chemical nature of soil organic phosphorus remains incomplete. It is thought that a portion of this could be comprised of phosphomonoesters (R1-C-OPO3, where R1 is an organic moiety) contained in polymeric structures of high molecular weight material.
The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is funding a PhD project to investigate the chemical nature of organic phosphorus in soils. This will involve understanding the molecular weight distribution of organic phosphorus in soil extracts and its chemical nature. The project will provide new insight on the diversity and quantitative determination of soil organic phosphorus, particularly those of: inositol phosphates, nucleic acids, phospholipids, phosphonates and ‘unknown’ phosphomonoesters. The project will involve the use of some of the most advanced and high-resolution equipment/techniques at the ETH Zürich, including: nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and high-performance liquid chromatography.
Applications are invited for DAAD scholarships from developing countries’ students. The scholarships are available for pursuing a postgraduate degree at German institutions of Higher education.
Learn the effects of agricultural policy in Latin America and the Caribbean, and analyze them using the AGRIMONITOR platform, developed by IDB. The course is available on EdX.
The main purpose of the discussion was to help students develop their career plan, information exchange and networking between professional agronomists and students, demonstrate the skills needed to obtain jobs in the agricultural sector and also to inform students about YPARD and explain how they can benefit from it. The events keynote speech was What strategies should be followed by young professionals to be employed in the agricultural sector in Kosovo. The discussion was monitored by Nol Krasniqi, a member of YPARD Kosovos working team. In the very beginning of the event, YPARDs platform was presented to more than fifty students to whom we explained how they could benefit by YPARD.
The keynote speakers at the event were Mr. Armend Malazogu - a successful businessman and one of the most famous people in the agricultural sector of Kosovo, Mr. Fatmir Selimi from USAID was there to talk to students about USAID projects and how young professionals can benefit from them, Mrs. Lumta Dida - an agronomist who worked in many important institutions such as the Ministry of Agriculture and the Agriculture faculty at the University of Prishtina. Mr. Nazmi Zeqiri from Recura Agro Center was also there to advise students on what they should do to be successful as consultants.
Applications are invited for World Wide Fund (WWF) to pursue research study in Switzerland. Scholarships will be awarded to students forshort-term and non-degree training scholarships.
The aim of the short-term and non-degree training Scholarships is to enable and encourage academically able students.
Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) launched the Innovations Against Poverty Fund (IAP) to stimulate private sector development initiatives which otherwise would not have taken place. The IAP fund functions as a risk sharing mechanism, with the specific mandate to identify and support innovative Inclusive Business models that deliver both commercial benefits for the private sector and developmental benefits – such as the creation of jobs, income increase and access to basic goods and services – for low income people, prioritizing women and youth.
Submit entries for the Infiniti’s Green Factor Design Contest 2017. Infiniti this year is looking for an eco-friendly product that can help to increase the level of the products introduced in the last editions. Thanks to the Contest, they have had the opportunity to discover new talents and interesting projects, which have been later translated into products of their Collection. They like the idea of many young designers, from all around the world, working on a forward-thinking project with the intent to create a useful, functional and sustainable product. They love thinking about many minds all focused on a common idea, an idea of clever design with silent quality.
