Love to feed or to starve?

He, grew up in farming family, studied BSc in Agriculture and is continuing his Master degree in Animal and Range Sciences. Sustainable agriculture, climate change, ICTs for agriculture and global citizenship education are of his interest and he works his best on those issues to address them. His decision to make agriculture as his profession, unlike from his friend, got wax and wane responses and he didn’t shatter with those all and he continued and is continuing - agriculture is his major and his profession.

He always wanted to increase youth’s participation in agriculture. To empower youth and develop their interest in agriculture he carried a project “Use of ICTs for Agriculture”, winning a project fund from UNEP/SAYEN, great support from the project members and all the participants for the success of the project is praise worthy. The project objectives was focused on two interventions:

1.      Promoting use of social media channels in disseminating agricultural information and use of blogging to promote the sustainable development goals at global level.

2.      The second level was concentrated on the use of, popularly used, mobile phone technology to disseminate the agriculture information and innovations at the farmer level, and assist them in adopting the innovation and later access the progress made.

Likely, being involved in “Youth for Conservation and Sustainable Agriculture”- as founder vice-president, he was able to conduct many programs and trainings, basically for youth and agriculture. His affiliation in “South Asia Youth Environment Network”, as National Youth Advisor for Nepal, let him to get an international platform to learn and share post agendas 2015 and Sustainable Development Goals. He was also able to participate as a youth delegates in “Global youth Advocacy Workshop”- South Korea, “UNESCO Forum on Global Citizenship Education”-Thailand, and “Regional Meet of South Asia Youth Environment Network”- Bhutan.

He have an extra passion in research and extension. He is lured with the event theme of GCARD3 “No One Left Behind: Agri-food Innovation and Research for a Sustainable World” and his interest is on Scaling up from research to impact among five key themes of the program. As a graduate research student in his master degree program, he believe participating on GCARD3 events will give him new height to share his research, and studied the research impact for the future.

He has sets his objective to secure a challenging position in the field of agriculture in order to contribute his knowledge and skills in accordance with the latest trends and being part of a dynamic team working towards agricultural sustainability and contributing to the improvement of global food security. In the future, he would like to involve in research activities in related fields to his extent possible and will also be advocating farmers lecturing in agriculture universities. This opportunity, social media trainings and participation on GCARD3 events, will help him now and in future in his research and extension of his acquired knowledge for agricultural development.

He wants to feed the world without depending on other to feed him. He believe, if we start farming today we will be able to feed the world tomorrow, and if we don’t we will starve sooner or later. So what do you think, to farm to feed or to starve?
