Welcoming YPARD Kosovo representative: Hana Voca

Hana Voca, YPARD Kosovo RepresentativeWe are delighted to welcome our very first YPARD Country representative for Kosovo: Hana Voca.

Hana has a degree in Horticulture from the Ege University, Turkey. After finishing her studies, Hana went to Italy to carry out a master program on organic agriculture at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari. Her bachelor graduation thesis was titled “Contemporary Forms of Slavery in Modern Agriculture.”

Hana is currently working on bio-control of Drosophila suzukii. One of the best things about the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Bari is that there she has the possibility to meet people from many countries and particularly from the Mediterranean area. “Meeting colleagues from all around the world provides a wide range of opinions and experience which is very useful in our field.”

Hana defines herself as a city girl. “Unfortunately I am not a farmer's daughter; neither had I grown up in a farm nor close to any.” Her first step into the agronomy field was when she started to study horticulture in Turkey. “At that moment I felt like being agronomist was my destiny. It not only helps me to understand the world and find out more about myself, but the most important thing is that it will help me to contribute to my country.”

Becoming YPARD national representative in Kosovo represents a new challenge for her in order for the youth to contribute to a transforming agriculture in Europe in general, and in Kosovo in particular.

“The first time when I read about YPARD I immediately clicked to be member of the website, (laughs) even though I realised that the Republic of Kosovo wasn’t among the nationality options when I was about to create my account.

Being YPARD Kosovo representative is very important for me. Kosovo has the youngest population in Europe; however the youth does not play an active role within the community. This is why it will be very interesting to bring young agronomists together through YPARD as well as to share knowledge and information in order to open the gates for new opportunities but most important, to show that agriculture is one of the key points for Kosovo’s development.”

We can’t wait to hear more from the Youth-in-Agriculture in Kosovo and we trust that YPARD Kosovo will be successful in mobilizing the youth through Hana’s leadership.

Welcome on board, Hana!
