The Women’s Leadership Program, funded through the U.S. government, and managed through Higher Education for Development (HED), supports national and local development goals that promote gender equality and female empowerment.

Subject to the availability of funds, HED anticipates issuing five requests for applications for higher education partnerships with Armenia, Paraguay, Rwanda, and South Sudan.

The two current requests for proposals emphasize agriculture, as follows:

  • A partnership in Paraguay to produce well-prepared women that have leadership skills in the agricultural sector; and
  • A partnership in Rwanda to increase women’s access to advanced degrees in agricultural sciences, and to promote women’s empowerment in agriculture.

Grants are to U.S. institutions of higher education in partnership with pre-selected universities in Paraguay and Rwanda, respectively. The partner universities are the National University of Asuncion in Paraguay, and the Faculty of Agriculture at the National University of Rwanda (NUR) in Butare, Rwanda.

The closing dates for applications are 05 June 2012 for Paraguay, and 20 June 2012 for Rwanda
